Beauty Q & A

Beauty Q & A
I was so excited when I checked my email to find not one, but 3 questions from you, my amazing readers!!!  Remember if you have a question you want to ask, please email me at nadinak123@gmail.com.

“Skin Guru, What am I to do when it comes to purchasing products on a budget? I want to take care of my skin but it seems good skin care is expensive.”
Thank you, Savvy Shopper
Savvy Shopper, I completely understand where you are coming from.  It seems to be more budget friendly to buy that cleanser at the drug store every month for 10 dollars.  Let me put some things in perspective for you; mostly the higher priced products are of a more concentrated nature therefore you aren’t getting a product that is watered down. So perspective, you purchase the product monthly at $10, when you could purchase a product of higher quality at $60 you can expect to use it 6-8months(when used correctly).  So it may seem like you are unable to afford it, but really it is just the out the door cost that is a bit shocking.  In the big picture you could actually save on your monthly budget and benefit your skin.  If you ask me that is a win, win! Good luck!

“Skin Guru, my teenage daughter keeps breaking out along her chin and jaw by her ears, what could be causing that?” Sincerely Confused Momma
Confused Momma there are few things that could be causing this, could be poor cleansing habits of face, pillowcases,  and cell phone ( putting a touch screen type phone up against the face without proper sanitizing can clog pores).  Typically the chin can be related to hormones, this has been expressed through various forms of face mapping.   This photo is an example of a type of face mapping; although there are parts of this one I don’t necessarily agree with, there are many varieties. The chin with proper skin care can be maintained as well as the jaw by the ears with good cleansing and proper sanitizing of the phone and pillowcases.  Many places offer consultations, check your area or email me and I can help.
“Skin Guru, I am a busy mother of 3, I find that I have a hard time to fit skin care into my already busy day, what do you recommend I should do?”- Too Busy
Too Busy, you will want to get multi-purpose products, I recommend using a mask at night and leave it on to double as a moisturizer. Another idea is to use a cleansing product that can be a mask that you can use in the shower.  Look for a thick cleansing mask with a little bit of exfoliating properties it will help cleanse, brighten, and help slough dead skin. The easiest way to incorporate a good skin care routine into a busy life is to add it to things you are doing, cleanse the face in the shower, mask while you are cleaning or getting kids ready, and moisturize while you are waiting in the car for the kids to get in. Good Luck!

Your skin in the winter

We are coming on to some of the coldest, blustery days of the year.  There are a lot of skin concerns and preventive measures a person can take in regards to skin.  I mean, I think “snow” is a  forgotten swear word.  I cringe more over that choice word than anything else. Just the thought of going out into the cold, wet, dark wintery day makes me shutter. Brrrr! In the cold we always seem to remember the essentials, from the many layers  of clothing, to the wool socks with the perfect boot, but, we most often forget to protect our largest organ.  Our skin is fully exposed to the temperature change from our cozy house to blasting heat in the  car, and then out into the cold.  You may notice that your skin is more dry than normal, signs of this dryness include; flaky, scale-like, patchy, tight, or even red irritated spots.  When your skin shows such signs most people try to exfoliate or scrub away the dry, patchy parts.  I urge you not to, it may help the flakes but this is only a temporary fix.   In regards to a cleanser, you will want to switch to a cream cleanser, it helps not strip the good oil in  your skin, you need to hold on to all the oil you can.  Make sure you moisturize!!  Both an oil type and a water type, because dry and dehydrated are two different things, but both suffer depletion in the winter.  For those who only really want one thing to apply in the AM, you must go with a skin specific moisturizer with an SPF!!  YES, an SPF, even in the winter!!!! I find myself telling so many people how important it is to wear an SPF all year round, because the UV rays are always shinning.  To put it all in perspective, we are actually closer to the sun in the winter time because of the way the earth has tilted.
When it comes to the body, I love, LOVE, coconut oil!  I take it as a supplement, I have mixed it with coarse salt for a scrub in the shower, and I use coconut oil as a moisturizer too! There are so many benefits to coconut oil; the fatty acids help retain moisturize in the skin, it also is claimed that coconut oil is good for several skin disorders such as acne, psoriasis, and eczema. I mean it is just a bonus that is smells super yummy!!
So to recap, protect your skin with layers, moisturizer and an SPF.  Try coconut oil on your dry patches of skin.  Switch to a creamy cleanser, and try not to over exfoliate.  Good Luck!!

Re-branding, Re-inventing, Re-doing

Not many people can re-invent or redo  things, but Bloggers can :)  I feel like we get to change up things, and re-launch, And that is exactly what I am going to do here.  I have been an esthetician for over a year now. In that year...  I have learned so many things about myself, the people I work with and what my clients look for. Through out this all the main thing I have learned is that I love helping people. This help comes in many different forms. I love, love, LOVE helping those find their way whether it be the correct skin care routine, the perfect shape for the brows( see my brows frame the face post...Brows are the frame of our face post).  I think  it is exciting to have a client who comes in with a just wanting a brow wax, then after much coursing to get a brow wax and a brow tint.  I was hesitant at first because brow tints are a bit shocking to a person who is use to only having light eyebrows without much distinction.  But when the service is over and I go  to hand the mirror for them to inspect my work.  The pure exclamation of joy  from my client, is what makes my job worth it. Showing clients things they couldn't dream of is why I love doing my job.
Another thing I enjoy doing is educating my clients on what their skin care is doing to them. As with everything in this world going closer to organic, I believe the same for skin care. I mean skin is our largest organ, and if we feel the need to fuel our bodies organically shouldn't it be the same for our skin? I currently work with Eminence, and OHA. I like working with organic lines because there is a level of confidence in being able to refer a product that will not harm a person in any way. I encourage all of you to try and swap at least one thing a month to organic, I recommend starting with a moisturizer because that is one thing that stays in your body the longest.

Well that is the :

Most amazing Post I have been able to write/co-write

Hello!

My name is Sarah and I, like you, am a fellow blog reader of Nadina.

I first came across Nadina's blog in the middle of this summer. I was blog surfing and searched for inspirational quotes when I found her blog.

I did a quick scroll down her blog getting ready to click over to another one when some words popped out at me "Numb to the pain, Numb to the emotion, Numb to thought." (This was in one of her blog posts called "Numb") I couldn't help but to keep reading her post, after that I found myself captivated by another, and another, until I looked at the clock and realized I had been reading her blog for several hours. I felt I had so many things in common with her, a stranger whom I never met. She gave so much insight on life, on past experiences and even future decisions.
Alpha Omicron Pi just recolonized the Phi Upsilon Chapter at Purdue University.
Sarah is in this picture :)
Nadina has written a few posts on her experience being a part of a sorority, Alpha Omicron PI. I was so inspired by her blog that by the end of the summer I decided that I too, would try to join a sorority. When I found out the same sorority she was in was also going to be at my University, I was ecstatic!

"Yay!" I thought, "I get to experience everything that Nadina talked about."

Before recruitment I found myself very nervous, no matter how many blog posts of Nadina's I read, I could not find the motivation to go through with it. I thought I would shoot her a Facebook message, just out of the blue. I didn't think she would reply but just thought I would give it a shot.

A couple of weeks passed and...

 Nadina replied to me!!

Not only did she reply but she apologized for the delay in the response. I couldn't believe it. The person who I've been so inspired by, who I thought I would never get to talk to is not only replying to me but offering me advice and help.

She was so kind and sweet to me, she took time out of her day to encourage me as well as give me advice.

I could not thank Nadina enough for all of her support.

The point is, Nadina's blog is not only relatable, inspiring, and insightful but she herself is a kind, caring, and helpful person.

Thank you for being so awesome Nadina.

I can't thank you enough.
Love,
Sarah

I saw this, I had no idea what to write back, I was soo happy I could have cried.  If you read my Hiatus blog, this girl is the reason I found to blog again!
She made my day, even though she will argue I made her day!

This message was seriously the most amazing feeling.  I thank you Sarah for inspiring me again and realizing why I love blogging so much!!!!

I am back from my Hiatus!

Oh my goodness...  It feels sooo good to be back!!!! I am very sorry for the hiatus, I was doing 15+ hour days with school and work.  But I am back and better than ever.  I am  a licensed esthetician doing what I am super passionate about, I couldn't be happier!
So the first thing I decide to do after getting my life figured out, blogging!!!!  How much I have missed it!!  But trust me, all my good advice hasn't been doormat. I have been told a few times recently that I should write a book or teach a class. I think I'll just go back to my small followers on this :)...

I have so much going on in my head I don't even really know to put it all to words!  In my hiatus, I  fell in love, had my heart broken, fell in lust, fell out of lust, had fun and now I am with a man who not only makes me the happiest person, he will also be surely helping me provide material for this blog....We have  a lot of history(side info, we met 2 years ago...for him he says it was love at first sight but yet  our timing never worked out the way we wanted, finally our stars have aligned).

In my hiatus I have learned a lot, and I am ready to share my info with you.
What is up and coming:
~Contests
~New formats
~Weekly skin tips as well as my Monday quotes  to get you through the week
~Guest writers
~Much, much more

I have more time and new found perspective to being able to write this, I hit a road block because I really wasn't thinking I was writing to anyone.  But then I was found on facebook by a women who completely  changed my outlook and has give me inspiration to know that at least one person has and will be affected by this blog. (I am hoping one of  these posts she will be writing as a guest writer about her experience).  Overall she read my blog and is now pledging my sorority  AOII  at Purdue University. I thank her for renewing my inspiration to write my blog.  I thank her and you can thank her too, because there is more to come!!
